Posting Everyday: Can it really increase your traffic?

I recently wrapped up my self imposed month of blogging. I decided to take on this feat as an experiment to see what it could do for the traffic to my blog. I am always reading articles online about how to increase traffic to my site and the idea of posting regularly, everyday is possible, is a concept that keeps coming up over and over again.

Blogging everyday is a daunting task, especially when you are caring for a toddler, working part-time and trying to start your own business. At first, I was worried about not having anything to write about for 28 days straight. That didn't turn out to be a problem. Apparently, I have tons to say (my husband could have told me that!). The problem that I did come across but never considered was how time consuming it was. Finding time in my hectic day to sit down and actually compose a well thought out article proved to be quite a challenge. I respect my readers and the last thing I wanted to do was post something for the sake of posting.

You can also imagine that finding time to actually read other blogs also proved to be a challenge. I tried to keep up with the many incredible blogs that I follow on a regular basis but in the end, I fail to do that. I had to chose between good content or keeping up with my blogger friends.

And what about my traffic? Yes, I have to say that my traffic did increase. Not only that, I found some new followers and renewed my connection with some of my older followers. Compared to the previous month, the cold hard facts are:
- 587 more visits
- 1322 increase in pageviews
- Bounce rate decrease by almost 3% (the lower the better)

Over all, I think that the best thing to do is to find a balance. While I don't think that posting EVERY DAY is not something that I can handle, I think that writing 3 to 4 times a week can prove to be just as fruitful and I won't have to neglect my other responsibilities, as well as getting a little more shut eye at night!

Thank you to all of you that came along on my journey!

  2. Great experiment and thank you for letting us know the results. I have wondered if people will drift away if you missed some days.

As a reader I am glad when some take breaks as it is hard to keep up with the reading sometimes. It is always refreshing to see the blogger 'back' even if 'gone' for a day or two. I don't want the reading to become a chore.
    Thanks xx

  3. That was really interesting. I do a M-F and really like taking the weekends off to read and reply. Although, I could write 7 days a week - there is just so much to say!!!!

  4. I've never tried an experiment of any kind on my blog. I'm very haphazard about it as a matter of fact. You're so organized and I'm so glad you shared this!

  6. Great info... I am so behind on commenting on blogs. So I decided not to post everyday. I post 3 times a week. I may post more than one post on the same day. Depending how I feel.

I love your blog eventhough I don't always comment.

  7. I don't always have the time to post every day! But hey maybe... I do have this streak going right now where too many ideas are coming to me and I save them as drafts. Maybe that is the way around that... keep drafts and fix them up before posting them....

  8. Congrats on completing it! That's a big task to take on.

  9. Good job completing the month. I'm glad to hear it wasn't as difficult thinking of posts to write as you thought. I do agree it does get a bit daunting posting every day. I do it and there are some days when I just don't want to write at all. I try to remind myself it may increase my traffic (as you pointed out) and that it's great writing practice too. I always wanted to be a writer and before I started my blog I only wrote on a hit and miss basis, now I'm writing every day. Pretty cool, I think. Although, I do agree that posting 3 - 4 times a week would take away that sense of occasional dread when it's time to post again.

  10. Yay!! You did it!!! And it's so cool that you could actually see the results of your experiment right after. The only results that I would see If I ever tried to blog everyday would be a bunch of starving people lying around in my house.

And then I suppose they would expect me to pick them up off the floor.

    Pfffftttt!

    Babies.

  11. Thanks for doing the research! I've been wondering the same thing myself- was wondering if I should keep staying up til 1 am to finish posts or if it wasn't doing anything for me at all.
BTW, left you something at my blog the other day. It's about 3 entries down :)

  12. I'm so impressed you made it the whole month - not to mention being sick in there a few days. Sometimes I have wondered if by posting more often if readers get overwhelmed or if it would increase traffic, so now I know!

By the way, loving the changes you've made to your layout. Add those cool boxes around the columns to my long list of things that you've done that I really like. :)

  13. May I ask, what kind of buisness do you want to have?:

  14. Xenia- I can't believe it either! I really thought it was tough and go those last couple of days when I was sick. Do you just love those boxes!? I had been dying to make the changes but I just hadn't had the time.

Cindy- I would like to have my own nursery design practice or a store where I would only sell nursery decor items.

  15. I am so behind on my blog hopping. But I was just thinking about you and your month of blogging and decided to pop over and see what has been going on.

I would love to post everyday and one week I did but last week man I had no time at all. So it is good to hear 3-4 times a week because I think I could handle that.

BTW I like your new layout.

  16. I'm all about the 3-4 times a week. More than that and I can not return visits or keep up with reading.

  17. What a great journey! I agree with you about poting 3-4 days/week. It's th content (I think) that draws people in. So , I guess you could say it's the quality not the quantity. =) (But, who the heck am I???) GREAT POST!

  20. I try to post daily, or at least Mon-Fri, but sometimes I fall behind. Life happens, and then blogging is put on the back burner until I have some down time to get back to it:) It's hard work keeping up with it all sometimes!

Props to you for going 28 days!!

  23. Want to hear something horrible? I thought you gave up on the challenge because I had put you on my blogroll and it never showed that you updated. Wanna know why? I am a FREAKING IDIOT and after I put add and it went on the list, I just x'd out. Guess what? I'm sure you already know this...YOU HAVE TO HIT SAVE! I am trying the whole 1,000 challenge thing and I couldn't figure out why it seemed so hard to find blogs to comment on and why no one was posting!

  27. Good for you, lady. I found that when I post more often I have a lot more commenters, also. Its like ppl stop reading when I stop posting, which makes sense. Then they stop checking to see if I have posted because....oh yeah, I haven't posted. YIKES!!!

  28. That's one interesting logic, Charisse.
